CHIMMINI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, THRISSUR, KERALA

           Chimmini wildlife sanctuary is a paradise created by nature.birds, animals , wild flowers, small streams and the dam are creating another amazing world in front of us.We takes  You for a ride to the beauty of Chimmini forest in Thrissur district.

       
             Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Amballur in Mukundapuram Taluk in Thrissur District. In the year 1984 it was declared as wildlife sanctuary named chimmini wildlife sanctuary and it is situated at the area of  100 sq. Km area. Travelers those who came to see the Athirapally and Peachi,they  don’t know about the beauty of this lush forest area outside at the Chimmini Dam. The boat service to this area  was stopped for several years.
  
   
        By the hand of the district Tourism Promotion Council it is started again few months ago.at that time they started the trekking and camping programs for attracting the tourists.The amballoor is 40 km far from thrissur,When you reach there you can see a road to the left side named palappilly road.Travel about 28 kilometres you can reach the side of chimney reserve forest.The chimmini dam is 10 km far from here,You can see the dam and the KSEB hydroelectric power plant there.



       Chimney is part of the Peechi-Vazhani-Nelliyampathy-Parambikulam Forest Range, and it includes the rare natural plants.Chimney's weather is much better than other forests. The period from December to April is the hottest time of the year. Winter is from May to November. Trekking and camping may stopped in the month of June and July due to heavy rain. The reservoir is sprawled over an area of ​​10 square meters and 20 meters deep.10 square kilometers of evergreen forests and 15 square km deciduous forests in the Chimney forests. This reserved forest  is a continuation of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve and is part of the anamudi Elephant Reserve. 



One day in the forest (wild camping program)



       Western slope of the Nelliyampathy hills in the Western Ghats. Enriched with tropical evergreen forests.And the world of wild animals like tiger, cheeta,monkey.. This is  chimney. You can stay a day-night in this terrible forest as a part of this camping program..The night camp settled in the top of huge trees and you can get the fresh fish that caught from the reservoir.

              The Forest Department also conducting the paid nature camps  for those who need it.Chimney is the best for a small evening trip with family. There is an hourly bus service from Thrissur to Chimmini dam. Travelers can take a ride through the  Dam's catchment area. The path through the reservoir ends at the Chimney Interpretation Center. From there you can see the elephants in the lake. And there is a facility to study chimney's  biodiversity.There is a  photo exhibition about animals and birds, that beneficial for nature students.
