KALAVANTIN DURG,MAHARASHTRA,INDIA


             Prabalgad Fort, also known as Kalavantin durg is situated between matheran and panvel in the Indian state of Maharashtra.This fortress is considering one of the most dangerous fortress in the world.


          The Kalavantin durg stands at an elevation of 2300 feets in the western ghats.It previously known as Muranjan until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s rule.It was built by the Bahmani Sultanate to keep an eye on the Panvel Fort and the Kalyan Fort in the north Konkan Area.


          The fort has a Ganesh temple and some undefined stone ruins.This place is paradise to mountain hikers and trekkers.The high altitude and rock cut steps are make this one dangerous.

TIPS

  • Anyone suffering from vertigo should avoid this place.
  • High windy climate,so cling to the rocks for grip
  • Prabalmachi village offers homestays there.
  • Best time to visit : October – May
  • Monsoon will give lush green views here,but the wet rocks are too dangerous.
  • Avoid huge backpacks,it may cause to pull back your body while you climbing up.
  • Take water and rain/cold wears before start your  trek
