CHAND BAORI,RAJASTHAN,INDIA



              Chand Baori is a stepwell situated in the Abhaneri village of Indian state Rajasthan.It is considering as one of the largest stepwells in the world.It was built by King Chanda of the Nikumbh Dynasty in 9th century AD.This one was built to conserve water and provide a respite from the intense heat.


           Chand baori consist of 3500 narrow steps over 13 stories.It extends approximately 30 meters(100 feet) into the ground.The Abhaneri (City of brightness) is now in ruins, but it attracts tourists from across the glob.It is located opposite Harshat mata Temple and was constructed in AD 800.


         It is one of the oldest and most attractive landmark in Rajasthan.This state is extremely arid and the design and final structure of Chand Baori was intended to conserve as much water as possible.At the bottom of the well, the air remains approximately 6 degrees cooler than at the surface.


           The Chand Baori is an architectural wonder with 3500 steps.it narrows as one gets closer to the bottom.A double flight of steps on three sides takes one to the surface of the water below.The fourth side is a three-storeyed pavilion with intricately carved windows,galleries and balconies meant for the royal family to sit in.
