Kotagiri is a hill town in
Nilgiris district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.It's a wonderful destination
for those who like to stay a night with awesome cold climate.It is one of the
three popular hill stations in the Nilgiris besides Ooty,coonoor.The name
Kotagiri means “The mountains of Kota's.The Nilgiri hills have been the
traditional home of the Kota tribe.
Kotagiri is situated at
1793 meters(5883 feet) above sea level.The importance of Kotagiri fell when the ghat
road from Mettupalayam at the foothills of Coonoor was built.Before that every
traveller going to Ooty had to pass through Kotagiri.This place offering the
beauty of tea plantations,lush green landscape.
Kotagiri is famous to tenting
and trekking activities.The most Popular trekking trails in Kotagiri are
towards Kodanad,Catherine Falls and Longwood Shola.The major attractions near
Kotagiri include the Catherine Falls,Elk Falls,Doddabetta Range and Rangaswami
Pillar.If you reached Kodanad,will give a spectacular views of lush green
valleys from the Viewpoint.

- Best time to visit : December to May
- Most of the restaurants are located near Johnston Square and Donington road.
- Restaurants and hotels also provide kitchen facilities.
- If you have a plan to tenting and trekking activities, Please make sure they are registred one.
- Don't expect high level trekking there,It is just a walk through tea plantations and meadows.
- Don't try to trekk to Catherine Falls while there is rainy season.
- Nearest Railway station : Willington station (Mountain rail station).
